Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal Worksheet

Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal – Colorful Flip Book Notes

Using both the left and right side of the brain when taking notes is extremely important in retaining the information. This can be accomplished when studying parallel lines cut by a transversal.

We have created what we call Colorful Flip Book Notes for parallel lines cut by a transversal! Your students will color the specific angle types identifying pairs of lines and angles using a color code. Then they will fill in the Theorems and postulates for Corresponding Angles, Alternate Exterior Angles, Alternate Interior Angles, Same Side Exterior Angles and Same Side Interior Angles using the correct colors from the directions. They will repeat this process for the converse of all these theorems and postulates.

Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal Theorems and Postulates - Colorful Flip Book Notes

Here are step by step directions for the activity...

STEP 1:

Mark the angles where they belong using the following color codes on the given parallel lines cut by a transversal.

Corresponding Angles: RED

Corresponding Angle Postulate: If two parallel lines are cut by a Transversal then the pairs of corresponding angles are congruent.

Corresponding Angle Postulate Converse: If two lines and a transversal form corresponding angles that are congruent, then the lines are parallel.

Alternate Exterior Angles: BLUE

Alternate Exterior Angle Theorem: If two parallel lines are cut by a Transversal then the pairs of Alternate Exterior Angles are congruent.

Alternate Exterior Angle Theorem Converse: If two lines and a transversal form alternate exterior angles that are congruent, then the lines are parallel.

Alternate Interior Angles: GREEN

Alternate Interior Angle Theorem: If two parallel lines are cut by a Transversal then the pairs of Alternate Interior Angles are congruent.

Alternate Interior Angle Theorem Converse: If two lines and a transversal form alternate interior angles that are congruent, then the lines are parallel.

Same Side Exterior Angles: PINK

Same Side Exterior Angle Theorem: If two parallel lines are cut by a Transversal then the pairs of Same Side Exterior Angles are Supplementary.

Same Side Exterior Angle Theorem Converse: If two lines and a transversal form same-side exterior angles that are supplementary, then the lines are parallel.

Same Side Interior Angles: PURPLE

Same Side Interior Angle Theorem: If two parallel lines are cut by a Transversal then the pairs of Same Side Interior Angles are Supplementary.

Same Side Interior Angle Theorem Converse: If two lines and a transversal form same-side interior angles that are supplementary, then the lines are parallel.

STEP 2:

Cut along the dotted lines.

STEP 3:

Glue where it says GLUE

STEP 4:

Place Page one on top of page 2. Hold together with a book until the glue dries.

STEP 5:

Fill in the Definition for the Vocabulary Words on the Right Side of the pages. Use the same color as with the Angle labels above. You can either have them cut out the theorems from the answer document and glue them on or you can have them write them in by hand. (Note: If you are going to have them write in the theorems and postulates you will want them to do that before STEP 2.)
